|Tahitian Tar Baby (retired)
Tahitian Tar Baby is a 15'1 Blue Roan Appaloosa mare with white and black spots over hips and loins.
Tootsie is boss mare and my Rock of Gibraltar. She looks after me the same way she does any of the other mares or foals. Her love is the gymkhana events but mine is trail riding, so we compromise and do some of both when time permits. We also both enjoy jumping occasionally.
Many a time I've pulled her out of the pasture, tossed a saddle on her, headed for the hills and mountains to gather cows. She travels all day long with no fuss. What Tootsie does best though, is make beautiful babies. Unfortunately now that Tootsie is 20 we will not risk her health by breeding her anymore.
Tootsie was pulled out of the broodmare pasture Sept of 2002 and entered into the Coutts/Sweetgrass Competitive Trail ride where she earned 3rd place with a score of 295 out of 300. The five points she lost were actually my fault as I had put some ribs out was posting only on the one diagonal, making her a bit sore through the one loin.
Tootsie is now back to work again as my favorite trail horse. She is always the trail boss, setting a brisk pace and hesitating at nothing. She does the Indian Shuffle which is a ground eating running walk that other horses have to jog or lope to keep up with. My only regret is that she never gave us a filly. But we do stand her son, Rein Dancer SSH, at stud and he is proving himself a potent sire. Hopefully he will sire an appropriate replacement in the broodmare band for his dam.
"Tootsie was put down January 7, 2006 after arthritis and pain from a leg fracture in the fall of 2005 became too severe."
